HOBART |  A 34-year-old Hobart woman was charged with criminal recklessness after shooting a man in the leg, police said.

Maria Guadalupe Marin was charged through Lake County court with criminal recklessness.

Police were called on Jan. 26 to a trailer in the 900 block of West 37th Avenue on a report of a man shot in the leg.

The victim, who was taken to St. Mary Medical Center, said he had permission to go into the trailer owned by Marin, court documents state.

A confrontation ensued between the two and the victim was asked to leave, court documents state. He said he had a hard time opening the screen door and turned to see Marin with a gun in her right hand, court documents state.

Marin admitted to police she had accidentally shot the victim in the leg because she feared for the safety of herself and her 16-year-old autistic child.
