Hobart Kiwanis Club is holding its annual Hobart Food Pantry Drive on Saturday. Nine thousand grocery bags are being dropped off in most neighborhoods this week thanks to Strack & Van Til.
Hobart residents are asked to donate nonperishable food, such as canned vegetables, soup, boxed dinners, cereal, pasta and peanut butter.
Bags will be picked up outside your front door by 10 a.m. Saturday. Key Club members and others from Hobart High School will assist the Kiwanis. If your grocery bag is not picked up by noon, call (219) 947-7779.
Donations may also be dropped off at the Hobart Food Pantry in the Hobart Schools Service Center, 200 S. Hobart Road.
Theresa Larimore, executive director of the Hobart Food Pantry, indicates that weekly food distributions have increased from 80 to 145 families and 50 senior citizens. Each family receives two bags of groceries weekly. Contributions this weekend will stock the food pantry through Christmas .
The Hobart Food Pantry depends entirely on volunteers, donations, and contributions.
