HOBART | A Lake Station man took part in multiple cases of prescription fraud in Lake and Porter counties, police said.

Ryan Orlando Otero, 28, was charged with seven counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud in Porter County and 11 counts in Lake County.

Police said the prescriptions fraudulently obtained by Otero took place at Walmart on U.S. 30 in Hobart and at the CVS Pharmacy on Willowcreek Road in Portage, court documents state.

Police were alerted to the fraudulently obtained prescription drugs by a relative who had received a phone call from Walmart about a prescription pickup, court documents state.

Otero, when interviewed by police, admitted he impersonated a doctor's representative and call in a fraudulent prescription under a relative's name.

The prescriptions filled were primarily for painkillers, court documents state.
