HOBART | A Lake Station man used stolen credit cards to make purchases in Hobart, Merrillville and Porter County, police said.
Shane Trentity Woodruff, 25, was charged in Lake County court with forgery, fraud, identity deception and two counts of theft.
A woman told police someone broke into her car Aug. 30 and stole her purse, court documents state.
The car, a Chevrolet Cobalt, had been parked at the Indiana Dunes Lakeshore National Park, court documents state.
A park ranger provided police with surveillance video of vehicles entering and leaving the park at the time of the break-in.
Hobart police matched that with surveillance video taken at Meijer's in Merrillville, one of the locations where Woodruff had made credit card purchases, court documents state.
Woodruff also used the stolen credit cards to make purchases at Pinkerton Oil in Porter County and Arby's in Hobart, court documents state.
