HOBART | A 21-year-old Lake Station man broke into the Hobart home of his former girlfriend and grabbed her by the neck, police said.

Phillip David Guzman Jr. was charged in Lake County court with residential entry, domestic battery and three counts of battery.

Police were called to the 700 block of East Eighth Street on May 27 about someone breaking into the house, court documents state.

A resident told police Guzman called her on the phone and wanted to get into the house, but she told him no.

She said Guzman got into the house through her bedroom window and grabbed her by the neck as she was speaking on the phone with dispatch, court documents state.

Guzman initially told police he broke into the house because he wanted to see the child he has with his former girlfriend, according to court records.

Guzman later admitted he went to the house because he was jealous after learning through social media that his former girlfriend was seeing a new man, court records state.
