HOBART | A 21-year-old Lake Station man stole from a lumber yard cans of compressed air which he inhaled to get high, police said.
David A. Anderson Jr. was charged in Lake County court with two counts of conversion.
Police were called to Hobart Lumber on April 18 by a manager, who said the same man had come to the store on two occasions and had stolen cans of compressed air, court documents state.
The manager gave police a copy of a surveillance video as well as a description of the man and his vehicle, which linked to Anderson.
During the investigation, a Lake Station detective who was at St. Mary Medical Center on an unrelated case was approached by a nurse who said Anderson had left behind his driver's license while being treated, court documents state.
Lake Station police officers confirmed they had gone to Anderson's house and found him inhaling vapors from an aerosol can.
Police also recovered 119 cans of aerosol, including some stolen from Hobart Lumber.
