HOBART | Need help identifying leaves?

A Leaf ID Workshop will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Deep River County Park, 9410 Old Lincoln Highway.

There is a $2 program fee and the booklet “Identifying Trees of the Lake County Parks” will be available for $2.50. Reservations are required at (219) 844-3188. Individual sign-ups only (no groups, please). Payment may be made at the program. Meet downstairs in the visitor center.

Collecting and identifying leaves can be a challenging task or a pleasant learning experience. Students working on a collection for school and adults assisting them, as well as those interested in learning tree ID, will join a Lake County Parks naturalist to help sort things out.

The first part of the program, learning how to ID trees by their leaves, will be held indoors. Afterwards, participants will walk the grounds and hike the trail to look for leaves. Insect repellent and comfortable shoes are recommended.
