HOBART | Today, on Nov. 6, Jeffrey Nowell spoke to Joan Martin's fifth graders about running a business. He shared some of his tips to having a successful career.
The kids were allowed to ask questions, as well as the students. Mr. Nowell is a friend of Mrs. Caddick, a fifth grade teacher at Joan Martin.
"I think it was a very educational presentation," says Abbey, Joan Martin fifth grader. "I learned that making a business is important, and I would like to have a business of my own someday."
Mr. Nowell started working when he was sixteen years-old at a grocery store.
"I had always wanted to work at a grocery store, but once I started I found that I didn't really like it," says Nowell.
When Nowell was eighteen he quit his grocery store job and started his own business out of his garage. He began making chairs and tables out of wood. This business eventually grew to the point that he was able to hire an employee. He now has a shop and produces custom cabinets.
Nowell emphasized the fact that "with hard work and effort anything can be possible."
