LOFS man killed in early morning Hobart crash
HOBART | A 40-year-old Lakes of the Four Seasons man was killed early Friday morning when the car he was driving left the road and hit a utility pole, police said.
The Lake County coroner's office identified the victim as Eric Hanak of the 3900 block of Fairhaven Circle.
The wreck in the 3600 block of West 49th Avenue was reported to police at 1:30 a.m.
The cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head and body, the coroner's office ruled.
Police said they found Hanak slumped over the steering wheel.
His car was facing southeast on 49th Avenue a few feet away from a damaged NIPSCO pole, police said.
Police located where the car had left the road and driven into the ditch.
The vehicle apparently had continued west through the ditch for 120 feet before hitting the utility pole, police said.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
