HOBART | Firefighters were called to two structure fires Sunday, including one suspected arson, Assistant Fire Chief Brian Kerr said.
The first fire, at DeKalb Street and 70th Avenue, was reported at 11:52 a.m., Kerr said.
The resident called firefighters after he heard a pop and saw fire around the stairwell inside the pole barn where he had been working on appliances.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Kerr said the second fire, at a vacant house, was reported at 10:19 p.m. at 506 N. Shelby St.
The fire started on the outside of the house and may be a possible arson because no one lives there, Kerr said.
Damage was contained to the exterior of the house.
