Jasmine Suarez’s softball pitching talent took her to Italy last summer for the Tuscany Series Arezzo 2013 tournament.
The Hobart resident has been playing the sport for 13 years, and represented the U.S.A. with 17 other players from across the country.
Sponsored by North American Prospects, her team also competed against groups from Germany, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands.
“It was a great once-in-a-lifetime experience. Not many players have the opportunity to say they played in Italy,” Suarez said.
“I am so grateful for the opportunity and thank whoever recommended me to North American Prospects and my parents for making it possible.”
Suarez also has competed in the National Softball Association World Series in Tennessee and won first place in four tournaments across Indiana and Illinois as part of the Indiana DEW Fastpitch Softball team.
A 2013 Hobart High School graduate, Suarez is now studying biology at Lakeland College in Wisconsin. She plans to become an orthopedic doctor.
In addition to playing softball throughout high school, Suarez competed in the 2011 National American Miss Indiana pageant and the 2012 Miss Teen Indiana Latina competition.
“It was a good get away from the sporty athletic side of me. Every girl loves to get dressed up every now and then,” she said.
“I have always been interested in modeling but never got into it, so when the opportunity came I didn't want to pass it up. It was a huge adjustment going from a dirty uniform to a dress and make up, but it was a fun transition.”
