Poppy Days coming
Poppy Days have become a familiar tradition in almost every U.S. community. This distribution of the bright red memorial flower is one of the oldest and most widely recognized programs of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Tonight, at the Hobart City Council meeting, Mayor Brian Snedecor will proclaim May 10 and 11 as Poppy Days in Hobart.
Members of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 54 will be stationed in front of several local stores offering poppies for a good will donation. Poppies are hand made by veterans in hospitals under Auxiliary guidance, and for some the small fee they receive for each flower is their only income.
All proceeds are used entirely for the benefit of veterans and their families.
Food pantry drive
Hobart Post Office employees will hold a food drive May 11 for the Hobart Food Pantry. Place your bag of nonperishable food for pick up at your door step on Saturday morning to be picked up by the postal workers.
