HOBART | A 41-year-old Hobart man caused severe injuries to a relative after he beat and strangled her in their home, police said.
Durwin Allen Fletcher was charged with battery by means of a deadly weapon, battery resulting in serious bodily injury, strangulation and domestic battery.
Police were called to the 1400 block of Grand Isle Court on Aug. 29 on a report of an injured woman.
When police arrived, they saw a woman whose eye was swollen shut and left cheek was bleeding severely, court documents state.
The woman told police she and a girlfriend had been in the kitchen eating leftovers from a party when the man came home from work.
The man, identified as Fletcher, attacked the friend and then went after her, choking and punching her and causing her to fall on the floor.
Fletcher also picked up a glass kitchen table and hit her with it, breaking it on her, court documents state.
