HOBART | Two Hobart men used a stolen credit card to make more than $1,000 in purchases in Lake and Porter counties, police said.

Joshua Hampton, 23, and Joseph Sanchez, 21, were charged with theft and fraud through Lake County court.

A woman called police April 1 and said someone had stolen her credit card from her car and made more than $1,000 in purchases, court documents state.

During the investigation, police spoke with Hampton, who said he was walking on Swift Street in Hobart and looking for cars left unlocked.

Hampton said he found an unlocked car and took a wallet with several credit cards inside, court documents state.

Hampton said he contacted his cousin, Sanchez, the next day and the two went shopping with the card.
