HOBART | A 21-year-old Portage man stole items valued at $61,000 from a Hobart warehouse, police said.

David Emery Edmond Gant was charged with theft in Lake Criminal Court.

Police were contacted Nov. 16 by the owner of a warehouse in the 400 block of South Sullivan Street.

The owner said the items taken included silver jewelry, crystal dishes, a train set, copper products, a camera and tripod and related camera equipment valued at $61,000.

The owner told police he believed the items might had been taken by Gant, who had worked for him and had been terminated because of taking money from him.

Police spoke to Gant's father, who told them his son confessed to him he had stolen several pieces of property over a couple of years from his former boss.

The items had been sold by Gant for cash at a Hobart pawn shop, police said.
