HOBART | Ridge View's fifth graders and their families are helping the environment and the possibility of saving hundreds of dollars a year by reducing their energy bill. NIPSCO helped sponsored Energizing Indiana, a nationally acclaimed program, to team with fifth graders to teach the importance of energy, natural and environmental resources, and gives each student’s family energy efficient technologies to install and experiment with at home.
Each high efficiency kit is filled with energy saving devices that encourage students and families to better manage their energy use and be educated consumers. Families conduct experiments and are able to calculate and discover energy savings while saving money. Each kit of items include: High-Efficiency Showerhead, three 13-watt CFLs, three 23-watt CFLs, a FilterTone Alarm, a Kitchen Faucet Aerator, a Digital Thermometer, and much more!
This program also educates students on how they can make an impact at their school, at home, and their community. This program's content supports ISTEP+ testing goals and the Common Core Standards.
