HOBART | In an effort to boost its enrollment, the River Forest Community School Corp. will accept transfer tuition students for the second semester.

Transfer students are those who live outside of the school corporation boundaries. In the past, the school district has only accepted transfer students in the fall.

River Forest Superintendent Jim Rice said the board verbally agreed to the proposal Tuesday and will vote on it Nov. 12. The district will accept transfer tuition students through Jan. 20, 2014.

Rice said tuition rates are $650 for a whole school year and $325 for half a year. He said transfer tuition students are paying a supplement that justifies the fact the student doesn't live in the community and a payment toward capital projects and the debt service fund.

Rice said River Forest had an enrollment of 1,404 students in K-12 last month, down 51 students from the same time last fall. The district currently has 27 transfer tuition students.

Rice expects the board will reconsider the policy each year and make a determination.
