CROWN POINT | Friday's hearing for a Hobart man awaiting sentencing in the death of Portage toddler Jada Justice was again continued.
Prosecutors charged Timothy Tkachik, 27, and his then-girlfriend, Engelica Castillo, the girl's cousin, with murder, neglect of a dependent, battery and false informing in June 2009 after Tkachik led police to the child's body encased in concrete in a LaPorte County swamp.
Tkachik, who pleaded guilty to neglect, was the lead witness during a trial that resulted in a sentence of life without the possibility of parole for Castillo, 22. The life sentence has since been reduced to a term of 65 years in prison.
Tkachik is presumed the lead witness in neglect charges against the girl's mother, Melissa Swiontek, 31, who is set for trial June 17.
Tkachik is now next set for a possible sentencing hearing June 28.
