HOBART | A lit cigarette is the possible cause of smoke reported coming from the walls of TGI Fridays, 1416 E. 80th Ave., Sunday afternoon, fire officials said.
The Hobart Fire Department was called to the restaurant at 2:16 p.m.
Firefighters found small amounts of smoke coming from the south wall by the main entrance, acting Fire Chief Brian Kerr said. They had to break holes in some walls both inside and outside of the restaurant to find the source of the smoke, he said.
Water was used to cool the area, and a thermal imaging camera was used to check for hot spots. The restaurant was evacuated then but later reopened.
The possible cause might be a lit cigarette that had rolled between the building and sidewalk and started to burn wood in that area, Kerr said.
