HOBART | On March 12, Hobart High School held its annual Freshman Orientation Night. During this time, eighth-grade students and their parents are invited to the high school to learn important information for the next four years. Some of the information includes scheduling classes, career pathways, preparing students for college and careers, school policies and procedures as well as everything that Hobart high school has to offer.

The administration was thoroughly impressed with the turnout this year. Not only were there numerous parents and students present but they were also very engaged and not afraid to ask questions.

“It is so encouraging to see all of the parents and students who are eager to hear what we have to offer," said Angela Patrick, Hobart High School  assistant principal. "Our ultimate goal is to prepare students for life after high school and ensuring that they are college and career ready."

"This preparation begins in 9th grade,”  said Brent Martinson, Hobart High School’s Principal.

Martinson also noted that this may have been "the best turn out that HHS has seen at Freshmen Orientation."

In addition to presentations from Dr. Peggy Buffington, high school administrators, the athletic director, and the guidance department- numerous specialty courses and clubs were in attendance to promote their programs. Programs like Project Lead the Way Engineering and Bio-Med had tables set up to recruit incoming freshmen. Other clubs were also present such as FCA and Football.

This particular night is the first of a few programs in place to help acclimate incoming 9th graders to the high school. On August 7th, all incoming freshmen will be invited to attend MISSION POSSIBLE day and parents will be invited to a parent presentation on the Insider’s Guide to High School.

It is important for students to feel comfortable when they enter the high school on the first day of school, so HHS strives to offer numerous resources and preparatory days to ensure that this is achieved.
