Hobart City Improvement Committee’s Summer Concert in the Park will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Revelli Band Shell in Festival Park, 111 E. Old Ridge Road featuring The German Band, with a cash and food drive for the Hobart Food Pantry.

City improvement members staff a concession offering pop, popcorn, and hot dogs for purchase.

The June 20 concert features the Hobart Youth Band, comprised of young musicians from Hobart, Lake Station, and River Forest. Information and a display about recycling will be offered.

Relay for Life

The Hobart Relay for Life will begin at 6 p.m. Friday and end at 9 a.m. Saturday at Mundell Field, 2 N. Wisconsin St., Hobart. 

Relay for Life offers area residents an opportunity to take action in the fight against cancer. The community is invited to participate in the event to celebrate victories over cancer, remember lives lost, and fight back against the No. 1 health concerns of Americans. 

During this overnight event, participants will take turns walking the track for 15 hours to signify that “cancer Never sleeps.”

Garden club at the market

The Hobart Garden Club is sponsoring a summer project for children 6 to 12, guiding them to distribute information from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursdays at the summer market at Festival Park, 111 Old Ridge Road, Hobart. 

Prizes will be awarded at the end of summer.

The club is also hosting a free Make and Take Planting session Thursday at the market. The summer project is designed for parents and children to have a fun time. Call Jennifer Stickley at (219) 947-2942.

Go golfing

Sign up for the Hobart Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing on Friday at Innsbrook Country Club, 6701 Taft St., Merrillville. Cost for breakfast, lunch and a round of golf is $125.

Hike the marsh

Save the Dunes is hosting a free public marsh nature hike starting at 9 a.m. Sunday at Robinson Lake Park, 53rd and Liverpool Road in Hobart. Hikers will learn about restoration of prairie and other native habitats. Bring a sack lunch, since the hike will last until about 1:30 p.m.

Festival includes contest

The second annual Stormwater Awareness Festival and Rain Barrel Painting Contest is an effort to promote water awareness and how we can help the environment.

City of Hobart citizens 4 and older are invited to participate in the contest, with judging from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Festival Park on June 22.  Rain barrel contest rules and applications are available in the wastewater payment center, Hobart City Hall, 414 Main St.

Claim lost property

The Hobart Police Department has found property that has be turned in, including a BMX bike, a television set, and a cell phone. Call Det.Corey Hanrahan at (219) 942-1125, ext. 1067 to make a claim.
