Hoosier Healthwise program

HOBART | Michelle Higel, Community Outreach Coordinator from North Shore Heath Centers, will explain the Hoosier Healthwise program and sliding scale fees available for uninsured and under insured families in a program from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Hobart Branch of the Lake County Public Library, 10 Main St. Refreshments will be served.


Musicians hit M'ville

Pasta supper served

LOWELL | The RDP Academic Scholarship Committee is sponsoring a spaghetti dinner before the home football game against the Crown Point Bulldogs. It's served from 4:30 to 7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria and includes spaghetti, garlic bread, salad, drink, and dessert. Prices are $8 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and elementary age students, and donations for youth under elementary age.

Griffith groups grill steaks

GRIFFITH | Griffith Chamber of Commerce and Griffith Rotary Club host a steak fry from 5 to 10 p.m. at Franklin Center, 201 N. Griffith Blvd. Dinner includes steak, roasted corn on the cob, and sides is $20. The kids’ meal of a hot dog, sides, and a drink is $5. Tickets are available from any Griffith Chamber member and at the Griffith YMCA through Friday. Food is served from 5 to 8 p.m.; a beer and wine garden from 5 to 10, and live music.

Elvis memorial concert

HOBART | The second annual Elvis Memorial Festival starring Rick Saucedo and Nick Gutierrez with The Change of Habit Band is from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Hobart Elks Lodge 1152, 3580 W. 61st Ave., Hobart. Doors open at 6 p.m. VIP and general admission seating available. There is a cash bar in the showroom. Call for advance tickets at $30 for VIP, $20 for general admission. Boot Camp Triathlon

CROWN POINT | Camp LRCA is hosting its first LRCA Boot Camp Triathlon at 8 a.m. on the campgrounds, 7007 E. 117th Ave. This is “sprint” class triathlon — .33 mile lake swim, 12.5-mile bike, and 3.1 mile cross-country run. The swim and run take place at the camp; the bike course winds through Lake and Porter counties. The triathlon, which features chip timing, includes male and female divisions for ages 12 and up, as well as team categories. Ethnic specialties featured

MERRILLVILLE | Croatian Lodge 170, 8550 Taft St., Merrillville, hosts its annual picnic from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.  BBQ lamb will be sold by the pound along with lamb, sarma (stuffed cabbage), and cevap (sausage) dinners. A variety of baked goods including strudels and nut rolls will also be available for purchase. Live tamburitza music all day starting at 11 a.m. with Drina and 3 p.m. with Plavi Vjetar.
