4-day Pie Charity Event set
HOBART | Marilyn’s Bakery, 8960 E. Ridge Road, is opening for the season with its annual four-day Pie Charity Event, today through Sunday. For every pie a customer buys, a $2 donation will be made to one of three featured charities of their choice. Hobart’s Parents as Teachers and Hobart Relay for Life have been selected as two of this year's nonprofit organizations, with the third yet to be announced. It runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Chili cook-off benefits Lupus
MERRILLVILLE | The 11th annual chili cook-off contest and tasting is from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Merrillville High School cafeteria, 276 E. 68th Place. Bowls of chili are available for $5. Hot dogs, soft drink and desserts are available. It includes an auction and face painting. Proceeds from the event will be used to further Lupus awareness, support services and further research and education into the cause to find a cure for lupus. Tickets are available from Merrillville High School in advance or can be bought at the door. Complimentary tickets for lupus patients are available. The cost is $5.

DYER | The Dyer Parks and Recreation Department holds Tea for Two for children 3 to 5 and an adult from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Dyer Town Hall (Activity Room B), One Town Square. Children can dress in provided gowns, feathered hats, tiaras, and jewels while enjoying light refreshments and lemonade. Make and take home a small craft. The cost is $20 for Dyer residents, $22 for nonresidents.
