Taking Pounds Off Sensibly weekly meetings offer encouragement, nutrition help, and friendly support to assist you. First meeting is free, bring a friend if you like, and there is no obligation to join.
Visit a TOPS meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesdays at Augustana Lutheran Church, 207 N. Kelly St., Lower Level, Hobart, or at 6 p.m. Tuesdays at Hobart Elks Lodge 1152, 3580 W. 61st Ave. If Thursdays work better for you, TOPS meets at 7 p.m. at the First Unitarian Church, 497 Main St., Hobart.

Kiwanis serve chili
The 16th annual Hobart Kiwanis Chili Supper will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Jan. 30 at a new location, the Hobart Trinity Lutheran Church gym, 891 S. Linda St., four blocks south and east of the Doughboy Monument. This fun evening will include, at no additional charge, entertainment by Trinity Musicians and Trinity Lutheran School students.
Same good meal of chili, hot dog, cole slaw, drink and dessert will be featured at $8 for adults and $4 for children younger than 10. Tickets are available from any Kiwanis member and at the Hobart Chamber of Commerce office, 1001 Lillian St.

Join the competition
Corn Hole Tournaments, open to the public, are held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday nights at Hobart American Legion Post 54, 208 S. Linda St.

Garden club honored
The Hobart Garden Club received a Certificate of Commendation from the American Red Cross-Porter County Chapter for its Victorian Christmas Tree decorated by HGC and auctioned at the Choc-O-Lot Festival, with proceeds benefiting local disaster relief.
HGC is soliciting ideas for gardening topics for future meetings. If you have a suggestion or would like to present a program, call Jim at (219) 942-6793. Meetings are held the second Thursday of the month, with the next meeting at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 13 in the Maria Reiner Room at Krull Tower, 206 Main St.
Girls and dolls to party
An American Girl Doll Valentine Ice Cream Social will be hosted by the Lake Ridge Women's Club from 2 to 4 p.m. Feb 9 at the St. John Township Center, 1515 W. U.S. 30, Schererville. This is a fun, indoor activity for girls and their dolls.
Light refreshments, crafts, dancing, a raffle for a new American Girl Doll, and other surprises are included for children. LoLo Doll Clothes of Hobart will have handmade doll clothes and accessories available for purchase.
