HOBART | Two Gary men robbed a Hobart gas station and took cash and cigarettes, police said.
Antoine Terrance McClain, 30, and Joshua Ray Painter, 27, were each charged in Lake County court with one count of robbery.
Police were called to the Hobart Gas Station, 428 Main St., on Jan. 27 on a report of an armed robbery, court documents state.
A gas station employee said he gave the gunman what he wanted and the man walked away, court documents state. The events were caught on surveillance video, documents state.
Hobart police, after speaking to Lake Station police, learned there were armed robberies in that city and in New Chicago, court documents state.
The Hobart gas station employee identified Painter after viewing surveillance videos from all three crime scenes, court documents state.
Painter, when arrested, admitted his involvement and told them McClain had accompanied him and driven the getaway car, documents state.
Painter also has been charged in the Lake Station armed robbery, police said.
