Valparaiso father, son charged with forgery, counterfeiting
HOBART | A father and son were charged with forgery after they attempted to pay off a restaurant tab with $100 counterfeit bills, police said.
Austin Philip Taylor, 19, and James Andrew Taylor, 41, both of Valparaiso, were charged through Lake Superior Court with forgery, counterfeiting and public intoxication.
Police were contacted on Nov. 24 by employees at Round the Corner Pub in Hobart regarding counterfeit $100 bills being used to pay off a debt, court documents state.
The employees told police they had followed James Taylor to his car after he tried to pay for a bill using what they determined were counterfeit $100 bills.
A police officer called to the restaurant spoke to James Taylor, who appeared intoxicated. Eight counterfeit $100 bills were then recovered by police.
Austin Taylor, who was waiting for his dad in the car, admitted he had received the counterfeit bills but hadn't spent them until the night he drove his father to the restaurant, court documents state.
