HOBART | The new leader of a Hobart veterans organization came to make amends at the Park Board meeting on Monday.
Jeremiah Kozub provided the financial update the Hobart Park Board had requested regarding his group's inaugural motorcycle run fundraiser for Veterans Park held last summer.
"I want to apologize for the lack of us being here before to give an update. I've replaced the former commander," Kozub said.
Kozub said he began serving as new commander for the American Veterans Motorcycle Riders Association, Chapter 13, on Jan. 1.
After providing an apology to the board, Kozub gave a complete financial report on the fundraiser, saying costs were more than money brought in with a resulting loss of $37, Kozub said.
The status of next year's fundraiser, tentatively scheduled for Aug. 24, depends on the group obtaining a tax-exempt status, Kozub said.
Kozub said despite not raising any money from its motorcycle event, the group is committed to assisting the city make improvements at Veterans Memorial Park as promised.
And the group can do that due to other fundraisers it holds during the year including a beanbag tournament on Jan. 27.
"We're still dedicating money to you. We want a nice park where everyone can come and spend the whole day," Kozub said.
Park Board President John Hevel thanked Kozub. He said the Park Board is still working to make improvements at Veterans Memorial Park including placement of military equipment.
"We're still stalled on getting something done," Hevel said.
