HOBART | On Saturday, July 28, forty-eight teams from all over Lake, Porter and La Porte counties, competed for the crown to be named the Hobart Jaycees' 2012 Mud Volleyball Champions. Last year, the organization raised over $8,000 for St. Jude Chidren's Hospital and Riley Hospital for Children's Camp About Face.
This year, hundreds of volleyball players could be seen diving through muddy conditions in an effort to advance to Sunday's championship play.
A new champion would eventually be crowned Sunday late afternoon as Tips are for Strippers dominated the mud to take home this year's trophy.
"It' s just a great cause and the level of play is very fair because no matter how good of a player you are, the mud is very challenging," said Tessa Maguire, Indiana Jaycees Junior Chamber North Area vice president. "We are excited to have 48 teams this year."
Trophies, beer, silent auction items, great food and live music was the atmosphere on Saturday and Sunday at the Rugby Field as the teams' level of competition become more and more intense the farther they advanced.
"We all want to win but this is really about the cause," said Aubrie Piro, Hugh Jazz Construction player. "We are having a blast and it's a great time."
