HOBART | The Shirley Heinze Land Trust has scheduled its first volunteer work day of the year from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Gordon and Faith Greiner Nature Preserve.
Participants are asked to bring warm work gloves as well as eye and ear protection to the preserve at the intersection of Montgomery Street and Old Ridge Road.
On Saturday, volunteers will be using chainsaws, brush cutters and loppers to remove exotic shrubs and trees in a portion of oak savanna separating the sand prairie from the fen, said Jim Erdelac, education and volunteer manager.
Those who want to volunteer can RSVP to volunteer@heinzetrust.org or callĀ Erdelac at (219) 879-4725.
