CROWN POINT | In a sure sign of spring, outdoor vendor Mike Adams has won renewal of licenses to operate hot dog carts in the downtown in warm weather.

Adams, who calls himself "the hot dog guy," will hawk franks in daylight hours from carts posted at the southeast corner of the square, at Main and Joliet streets, and at the southeast corner of Joliet and East streets, one block east of the square.

Approval granted Adams by the Board of Public Works and Safety included permission to also operate a late-night hot dog cart on the square on weekends.

Plans are for the cart to be in business from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays, weather permitting, serving patrons of late-night bars and restaurants in the downtown area, Adams said.

Adams said he wanted to reprise the late-night cart this year after it proved successful in an earlier attempt a few years ago.

Adams said he hopes to also sell snow cones and Italian ices from another cart he plans to locate at the northwest corner of the square, at Clark and Court streets.

Those plans are still being developed, Adams said.

Adams will be required to comply with traffic and road safety regulations at the various locations, city officials said.

No complaints about Adams' vending businesses have been received in previous years of operation, officials said.
