CROWN POINT | A Hammond man was found guilty Friday of two counts of child molestation in a case involving a 9-year-old girl.

Ventris Hulitt, 24, faces up to 50 years in prison when he is sentenced Nov. 13, Lake County Prosecutor Bernard Carter said in announcing the verdict.

A Lake Superior Court jury deliberated for just under two hours before delivering the guilty verdict, Carter said.

Hulitt was accused of assaulting the girl while he lived with the family in Merrillville for several months between 2009 and 2010.

The girl told police Hulitt would wake her after her father left for work to shower with her, which progressed to performing sexual acts while in the shower.

The girl later was diagnosed with a sexually transmitted disease, according to court records.

Hulitt was charged with sexual battery, confinement and two counts of child molesting.
