CROWN POINT | Lake County Assessor Hank Adams said he is convalescing at home following a recent surgery.
Adams said Thursday he underwent surgery last month to repair nerve damage in his neck that could have left him paralyzed if untreated.
"The surgery came out real well, but I have this hard neck brace on," he said.
The brace prevents him from driving to work because it limits his vision and ability to move his head.
"I should be getting out of that shortly," Adams said. "Otherwise, I'm keeping up with everything. I hired one person and promoted another just yesterday."
Adams became the first Republican to win a countywide office in 50 years when he ran in 2010.
