MERRILLVILLE | Meals on Wheels, a nonprofit that delivers meals to seniors, is in need of volunteer drivers.

The organization's slogan, "So no senior goes hungry," is made possible by volunteers who deliver 1,600 meals per day in Lake County.

The duties of a driver would include driving your vehicle and delivering meals during lunch hour in a route within your community. Each delivery requires about 1.5 hours.

Volunteers are needed for all areas in Lake County, but the communities in most need are Griffith, Munster and Merrillville.

Meals on Wheels gives flexible monthly scheduling. There is also a corporate volunteers program for businesses.

Two training sessions for interested volunteers will be Aug. 13 and 15 at the Wheels Conference Room, 8446 Virginia St., Merrillville. The Aug. 13 training session will at 10:30 a.m., and the Aug. 15 session will begin at 1:30 p.m.

To register for training or for more information, contact Volunteer Manager Joan Vith at (219) 756-3663 or by email at joan@mealsonwheelsnwindiana.org.
