CROWN POINT — The Lake County Plan Commission is looking for public input this month to update its land use policies for unincorporated areas.

A public meeting on the issue will take place 6 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Lake County Government Center Auditorium, 2293 Main St., Crown Point. Subsequent meetings will be held throughout the county in the next several months.

The county hired the The Arsh Group, of Merrillville, under a $74,250 contract, to draw up a comprehensive plan to give the county new direction for any future development of land outside of Lake's 19 cities or towns.

State law requires all 92 counties create a comprehensive plan for future highways, protecting wetlands and providing adequate public utilities, health, educational and recreational facilities and healthful residential areas, as well as balancing the needs of agriculture, industry and business.
