The Lake County Sheriff's Department is asking residents for donations to care for two horses that were abandoned earlier this month at 241st Avenue in Schneider near LaSalle State Fish and Wildlife Area. It also is hoping someone will volunteer to foster or adopt the horses.

The horses are safe due to the efforts of the Lake County Sheriff's Posse Unit, which provided them with temporary shelter and care. Picked up on Nov. 3, the horses are emaciated.

Donations are needed in the following areas: money for veterinary care, halters, feed gift cards, wormer, brushes, buckets for feed and water, feed scoops and hay bags.

For more information about donating items or money, and fostering or adopting the horses, contact Lake County Sheriff's Animal Adoption and Control Center at (219) 769-7016, or 3011 W. 93rd Ave., Crown Point.
