LAKE STATION | A 21-year-old Lake Station man allegedly broke into a home and attempted to burglarize other homes in the 3300 block of Texas Street, police said.

Donald Louis Keene was charged Wednesday with attempted burglary, residential entry and criminal mischief.

Police were called July 2 about a man knocking on doors and asking for gas money. A woman who contacted police said she saw the man, identified as Keene, also enter a house where she knew residents weren't home.

The homeowner said he didn't give anyone permission to enter the residence. He told police his garage had been damaged when someone entered his house.

A neighbor identified Keene as the person who had entered the house and caused the damage because of a unique tattoo on his neck. !~ By Times Staff
