LAKE STATION | The city is holding a baseball/softball registration event at 6 tonight at City Hall, 1969 Central Ave.

The event, which will be attended by former White Sox player Carlos May, will include refreshments and prizes.

The city is hosting the celebration event to play up its new Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth Baseball and Babe Ruth Softball teams.

Registration for the league will continue from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today through Friday at the park office, 2701 Ripley St.

The cost for players is $50 for first child and $25 for each additional child per family.

Fees will pay for equipment, umpires, uniforms and field maintenance. Players will be able to keep hats, shirts and pants after the season is over.

All games will be played at the new Field of Dreams complex on Marquette Road.
