LAKE STATION | A 19-year-old Hobart man had sexual relations with a 12-year-old girl at a house in Lake Station, police said.

Rafeal Jose Marcano was charged Thursday with child molesting, a B felony, through Lake County court.

Police were contacted by the Hobart family of the 12-year-old girl who reported she had gone to stay in the Lake Station home of her friend on the night of June 13, court documents state.

The girl said she and her friend became bored and left to sneak through the window of the Lake Station house of her friend's grandparents, who were out of town.

Once in the house, the girls began taking medication thought to be Klonopin, while partying with others, including Marcano, court documents state.

The girl said Marcano also took three of the pills then asked her to have sexual relations with which she agreed, court documents state.

The girl, who doesn't turn 13 until August, said she told Marcano she was 13 years old when they communicated with each other on social media, court documents state.
