LAKE STATION | Registration for the city's newly formed Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth Baseball league has been continued through Thursday, city officials said.

Registration is from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the park office, 2701 Ripley St.

City officials recently held a sign-up celebration event at City Hall.

Youngsters who attended the event had the opportunity to meet former White Sox player Carlos May and White Sox mascot Southpaw.

The cost for players is $50 for first child and $25 for each additional child per family.

Fees will pay for equipment, umpires, uniforms and field maintenance. Players will be able to keep hats, shirts and pants after the season is over.

All games will be played at the new Field of Dreams complex on Marquette Road.
