CROWN POINT | A Lake Station man indicted earlier this year in federal court for allegedly producing child pornography was charged Wednesday in state court with molesting three children.

Daniel Eckstrom, 30, was arraigned in May in Hammond federal court on charges of sexual exploitation of children.

He is alleged to have admitted using marijuana to entice the child, a relative estimated to have been 8 or 9 years old at the time some of the photographs were taken, into also having sex with him.

Eckstrom, of the 3600 block of East 35th Place in Lake Station, produced the child porn and then distributed it via his Yahoo email account, according to federal charging affidavits.

On Wednesday, Lake County prosecutors launched state charges against Eckstrom involving the girl, now 12, and two additional children.

Eckstrom is charged with multiple counts of child molesting, criminal deviate conduct and criminal confinement, all felonies, and a misdemeanor count of intimidation.

Based on information from the Department of Homeland Security Immigration Customs Enforcement, police obtained a search warrant for Eckstrom's home and computer, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Eckstrom was taken into custody and is alleged to have admitted he engaged in child pornography with the three children and having had sexual intercourse with one of the girls for more than a year.

The girl told police Eckstrom began having sex with her when she was 7 or 8 years old. She recently was treated for a sexually transmitted disease, the affidavit states.

Another of the girls, now 7, told police she was awakened by a blue vibrating device placed inside her underwear by Eckstrom while she was sleeping overnight, the affidavit states.

A third girl, now 10, told police of incidents occurring in Eckstrom's room. The girl identified herself in a photograph with her shirt pulled up. Eckstrom is accused of telling the girl if she told anyone, he would hurt one of the girls, the affidavit states.
