LAKE STATION | Police were on the lookout Thursday for a gunman who robbed a convenience store and fled on foot.

An employee at County Line Market Convenience Store, 5035 Central Ave., told police she was robbed by an unknown gunman shortly after 4 p.m., Police Chief Kevin Garber said.

The man initially asked the clerk for a product the store doesn't carry, then pulled out a handgun and asked for money from the cash register, Garber said.

The clerk complied with the request, and the man fled the store heading west, Garber said.

The man is described as a white male, 6 feet tall, approximately 160 pounds and in his mid-20s. He was wearing black pants, a dark colored hoodie sweatshirt with the words "New York" on the front and a black winter stocking hat.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lake Station police Detective Brian Williams at (219) 962-1186 ext. 353 or email him at bwilliams@lakestation-in.gov.
