LAKE STATION | Lake Station police will be taking part in the nationwide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign starting Friday and ending Sept. 2.

The drunken driving crackdown will consist of saturation patrols, driving under the influence checkpoints and high-profile events.

The crackdown will be supported by state and national paid advertising, creating a comprehensive effort to curb drunken driving in August and through the Labor Day holiday weekend, police Lt. John McDaniel said.

"Every year, about one-third of all motor vehicle traffic deaths involve one or more drunk drivers or motorcycle operators," McDaniel said.
