Lake Station police honor retiring K9 officer

K-9 officer Mox relaxes during his retirement party last week at the Lake Station police department. Mox, a 4-year veteran of the force, had a role in police confiscating more than $200,000 in connection with drug sale funds. Over his career, he also discovered about 200 pounds of marijuana, and helped in apprehension of a number of suspects. Mox and his partner, Det. Mike Smith, had worked for Gary's police force before coming to Lake Station. "He's a great dog," Smith said. "I couldn't ask for a better dog." About 20 officers, Lake Station police Chief Kevin Garber, Assistant Chief John McDaniels and Mayor Keith Soderquist were also present for Mox's send off. The department will acquire two new canine officers in June.
