LAKE STATION | Officials at 5 p.m. Thursday will unveil the new Indianapolis 500 decorations at City Hall courtyard, 1969 Central Ave.

As an added bonus, the first 300 residents to attend the event will receive a free ticket to attend the qualifications time trials May 19 and 20 in Indianapolis, city officials said in a news release.

The decorations will remain in place through the month of May to support the Indianapolis 500.

With its decorations, the city is vying with other communities in hopes of being awarded $20,000 from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Committee.

The money would go to support the Field of Dreams Park, city officials said.
