LAKE STATION | A 33-year veteran Lake Station teacher remains on administrative leave with pay.

The Lake Station Community Schools board Wednesday officially approved the administrative leave of Edison High School business teacher Jeff Kincaid, who has taught business and coached for 28 years in Lake Station.

Kincaid was placed on leave March 1 after an incident where he wrote what authorities called "threats" to students on the chalkboard. Wednesday's meeting was the first School Board meeting following the incident.

The message, in part, said, "Period G (only). A. You are idiots!!! B. The guns are loaded!!! C. Care to try me???" It was posted on Facebook by a student.

Lake Station Superintendent Dan DeHaven said Kincaid's attorney Amy Yoder has indicated Kincaid is reviewing retirement options, but DeHaven said he hasn't seen anything in writing at this point.

While the Lake Station Police Department has investigated the incident, charges have not been presented to the Lake County prosecutor's office.

DeHaven said the incident represented an instance of poor judgment. "This is not the way any of us wanted his career to end, and maybe it won't be the end. He may want to come back and will ask for reinstatement; we're waiting to see what comes forth from his attorney," DeHaven said.
