GARY | A 30-year-old man faces multiple charges after leading police on a high-speed chase that ended when he crashed his car into a tree in the area of 41st Avenue and Colfax Street early Sunday morning.

According to reports, officers were attempting to conduct a traffic stop after seeing the car Dwayne Thomas was driving at a high rate of speed. Thomas reportedly did not stop and ran through several stop signs until reaching Colfax when his vehicle left the street and struck a tree.

Two handguns were reportedly recovered from Thomas’ vehicle. He faces charges of reckless driving, disregarding traffic control signals, fleeing from police, having a gun with no permit and being in possession of a gun with an obliterated serial number.
