VALPARAISO | A Portage man and a Lake Station man, both 19, face felony charges alleging they had sex with a 13-year-old girl.
Joel Bogdan, of 2316 Swanson Road in Portage, and Charles Nafus III, of 2624 County Line Road in Lake Station, each face Class B felony child molestation charges, police said. The charge carries a potential sentence of six to 20 years in prison.
According to court documents, the girl told Hobart police she began having sex with Nafus in late August at her friend's house in Portage and had been spending almost every night with him recently.
The sexual encounters were verified by two of the girl's friends and by Nafus, who said he knew she was 13, police said.
The girl also told police she had had sex with Bogdan a few weeks earlier in Portage, court records state. She said he knew her age because they had talked about it, police said.
Nafus also told police he knew the girl had sex with Bogdan because both had told him about it, according to charging information.
The alleged molestations came to light as part of an unrelated investigation, police said.
