LAKE STATION | An 18-year-old Portage woman sustained a broken leg and other injuries Sunday after she crashed her motorcycle into a stopped car in front of Riverview Park, police said.

The crash was reported shortly before 3 p.m. in the 2700 block of Ripley Street.

The woman was driving northbound on Ripley Street and had waved at someone she saw at the car show being held at the park, police said.

Shortly afterward the woman attempted to brake her 1986 Honda but instead crashed into a stopped 2006 BMW driven by a 62-year-old Valparaiso man.

The woman, who was pinned under her motorcycle, was transported by ambulance to St. Mary Medical Center, police said.
