LAKE STATION | Traffic on westbound Interstate 80/94 was backed up for more than three hours Tuesday after a semitrailer hauling scaffolding rolled over just east of Ripley Street.
A 1995 Freightliner pulling a flatbed was entering I-80/94 from the Indiana Toll Road at 11:30 a.m. when the driver took the curve too fast, Indiana State Police said.
The load of scaffolding shifted and rolled to the driver's side, police said. The scaffolding broke loose from the trailer and scattered across the westbound lanes of traffic.
Driver Richard Nelson, 49, of Jordan, Minn., was not injured. He was cited for driving too fast to avoid a collision.
Traffic was backed up for about six miles as crews worked to clear the scaffolding off the highway and pick up the semi, police said. All lanes were cleared about 3:15 p.m.
