LAKE STATION | Several injuries were reported following a three car crash Monday morning at Central Avenue and Ripley Street, police said.
The crash, which also resulted in damages to two parked cars, was reported to police at 8:45 a.m.
Witnesses told police a Ford SUV was traveling east on Central Avenue, approaching Ripley Street, and made no attempt to stop for a red light.
The witnesses said the Ford struck a GMC SUV which was turning south on Ripley Street from westbound Central Avenue, police said.
When the Ford struck the passenger side of the GMC, it caused the GMC to strike a third vehicle.
The GMC then flipped on its side and two Gary women inside it were pinned in and had to be extricated by fire personnel.
A tire from the GMC flew off during the impact, striking two vehicles parked at a local business, police said.
The two Gary women and the driver of the Ford were transported to an area hospital for treatment.
The driver of the Ford, a 32-year-old Gary man, will be charged with driving while suspended prior on a learner's permit.
Additional charges may be filed pending further investigation, police said.
The driver of the third vehicle, a Munster woman, was checked by emergency personnel but did not require further treatment.
